Talitha was having a great life. She was working as an aromatherapist aboard luxury cruise liners, crossing the oceans in style, seeing new places and meeting many new people. One of them was a personal trainer on "her" ship. The year - 2003.
Fast forward to today, and the still-very-young South African born is mother to two boys, the personal trainer is now her husband and she calls Australia home - in particular Sydney.
Talitha fell in love with Daniel, an Aussie from Sydney's beaches. They continued travelling the world by working on luxury cruise liners until 2010 when they decided to settle in Sydney's Inner West.
“The beaches, sense of freedom, sunshine, parks, food and people made it an easy decision to settle in the Sydney,” says Talitha. Since starting a family was on her mind, Sydney looked like the best option... it had a lot offer families and other great opportunities.
Trained as a natural therapist, she turned to her skills when her first born was having (and giving his parents) a hard time with colic and reflux.
“He was natural and clean and untouched - newborn - why would I want to pump him full of medicines?”
She found massage helped her baby. Soon she was training as an infant massage therapist, her son's early problems having disappeared thanks to her new skills.
The birth of Talitha and Daniel's second son brought a different set of difficulties. This time it was the mother who struggled - post-natal depression.
“I was so used to feeling his kicks and movement inside my womb, so separation was hard”.
Massaging her newborn helped re-establishing the bond, and she - they - haven't looked back. Both her children still receive regular massages and love it.
Talitha has been teaching infant massage to other mothers since 2013, drawing on her own experience in addition to her qualifications as an infant massage instructor/therapist. At the Balmain Massage & Wellness Centre, Talitha holds morning classes for a maximum of 3 adults, showing them the ropes. She's also available for one-to-one coaching.
